These PC-based OBD software/connector systems have been around for a few years. I believe you'll find there are Volvo proprietary codes and system test procedures that would not be present in these generic OBD scan tools, you know things like the code for the vanity mirror light being out. Only the basic OBD emission and safety codes and functions will be handled. Of particular interest is the OBD reset function which I believe is proprietary. I think that's why these are less popular than their price might indicate, otherwise why would any sane shop shell out megabucks for the Volvo scan tool. Others may know different, but that's what I recall from the last time I went digging into this topic.
