Fuel problem?? 200 1983

intermittent noise from the main fuel pump usually means the in tank fuel pump is at death's door, or the pick up screen is clogged.

I learned this the hard way after my 242's main fuel pump began making noise, replaced it, noise still there, replaced fuel filter, noise still there, finally dawned on me to let the car idle and unplug the connector to the in tank pump and listen for any change in sounds. No change. Took out the pump and it was bad, replaced it, and it runs great now.

in tank pump was priced at local auto parts store: $125
fcp groton: $29

good luck
