I'm not familiar with your particular radio, but let me say that the stock radio in my wife's '93 940 (I think it's model cr-814) has HANDS DOWN the best reception of any radio I've ever heard of. (and I've researched this)
Without exception, the most sensitive tuners (the measure of a tuner's ability to receive distant/weak signals) on the market are from Pioneer and Clarion. But the radio in this car seems to be better. I'm able to get stations that most of my co-workers have never even heard of.
On the other hand, the after-market Sony CD/Tuner in my car sucks. I actually considered swapping the CD/Tuner in my car for the Volvo unit. But then, I'm a radio junkie, and rarely use the CD player.
