loss of boost 700

I am having a problem and not sure what is causing it. If I am going say 40 and put the gas to the floor, transmision kicks down(auto) and boost jumps up for about 2 seconds then imediately drops to slight vacuum and stays until I let off the gas. If I accel slowly it seems to hold boost fine. Has anyone had a similar problem or any ideas.
