Ongoing engine cuttiig out problem 700 1989

Hey, I am having a similiar problem with my car. v6 89 760. Electrical gremlins are haunting my car.

My symptoms have come after 2 major events. Big repair 1: replaced aw71 with a used one from junkyard. Major repair 2: big leak from timing chain case into alternator, replaced timing chain cover gasket.

So what is happenening is I am getting a short that kills the battery, and stalls the car. The battery is def having an issue. Is this the alternator come to reak havoc?

When jumped the car wil run fine til it is warm, then 'it seams' as though the car loses spark, but not sure. what happens is (after having charged off jumper car for 10 minutes)it goes from running smooth and idle (undue jumpers) still fine, runs for 1-5 minutes then it starts surging and within 30 seconds of car gassing, idle slowing, gassing.. it coughs and stalls leaving a smoggy gas smell from rear. When attempt is made at restart battery wont even turn engine over. repeat as before does the same thing.

Another symptom/possible cause is my stereo wigs out from the front dash speaker like i was delibriately shorting the battery through the speaker. Since owning this car i have not removed (or looked at)the middle fuse block from behind the shifter. It seams like a real pain in the ass.

Having taken the battery out to be charged the radio needs the code but will still make a popping sound outta that front rt speaker.

Anyone with anyhelp (ie just a trick for getting to the middle fuse block easily) or hey this sounds like your alternator is def cooked.. whatever, any help would be greatly appreciated.

jay geiser
