That is not it. In the picture from Smitty there is one white part. That's what your flame trap looks like. The other parts in Smitty's picture are for a later model than a 1986 - like my wifemobile which is a 1988 244GL.

The assembly containing the flame trap is located underneath the intake manifold, near the rear of the engine, sort of between rails #3 and #4. You can see the hose connections by looking straight down between those rails.

You can follow a hose to it. Just ahead of where the large accordion air hose connects to the throttle body are connected two large size vacuum hoses. One is easily seen - goes towards the front and downward to connect to the idle air control motor.

The other hose seems to disappear somwhere between the back of the intake manifold and the power brake booster. That's the one to follow. Be prepared to get greasy. That hose connects to a plastic fitting that contains the flame trap, and also has another hose - small size - that goes up to the intake manifold.
