940 Oil Cooler Question

When I changed the oil on my 91 940 SE Turbo, I loosen the fittings located at the bottom front of the engine. I drained the oil from the oil cooler into the drain pan and found that oil also drained from the filter as when I removed the oil filter, there was little oil loss. This is the technique that I plan to use unless someone can convince me otherwise.

Before I started the engine, I pulled the fuses to disable the injection system and cranked the engine for about twenty seconds to refill the oil cooler and filter. Replaced the fuses and started up and the oil light went out immediately.
