There are two pathways.

1. Call your local VDO repair shop and find an extra $150 to $200. There is a shop in Austin, TX set up for mail work.

2. Find a replacement gear. Then you can disassemble the unit, put in the new gear, reassemble, cross your fingers while facing the East, and hope it works. The gears alone - if you find one - can be $25 a pop.
