One thing is that the instructions for initial distributor placement
and timing are a little confusing. Check that when your distrib is pointing
to #1 that both valves are completely closed. It is easy to get the timing
off by 180° on the cam or 360° on the crank.
I'm surprised that you cleaned out the lines from the float chambers to the
jets and still don't have any fuel. Might be worthwhile to prime it
a little (1/4 teaspoon or so) down the carb throats or maybe a light spray
of engine starting fluid.
Might also be that your float levels are very low or your float valves
are sticking shut.
It should fire, even if it doesn't run.
