240 DL & 740 GLE, what are the differences?

these are two totally different cars. The only similarity is that they may (or may not) have the same engine and transmission.

Briefly, the 740 has more "stuff". That's fine, if you like "stuff", but "stuff" tends to break. The 240 is very simple, easy to fix, and doesn't have much "stuff" to break.

If they are similarly priced, the 240 is probably a better value. Should last another 150,000 miles or more. But if you really feel the need for "stuff", get the 740.
