Do I need to do a tranny fluid change?

The service light came on - I got the car at the first if the year and have no idea when the full service was done last. Not recently from the looks of the spark plugs. Anyway, the car shifts fine and the fluid still looks red, doesn't feel dirty. Shoudl I go ahead and replace it, or can I put it off?
