swapping camshafts

I would agree with that- as long as the cam and the bearing saddles show no damage. I've seen a few cams seize up- seemed mostly to affect '82 cars for some reason but its worth checking on any head you've got out.
Also look for smashed valve keepers - is that the right term? -on the end of the valve stems. High mileage can deteriorate these parts, although the engine will still run fine.
