hall efect dead, or computer dieing? 700

Chance is good that it is the Halls sensor.

Chance is equally good that the culprit is the Ignition
amplifier. It is bolted to the driver's side of the fender,
to the right of the battery. Tape some insulation over it and
see if things improve. If yes, you found the problem. If not,
It's Halls sensor.

The "computer" is most likely fine. They hardly ever go bad.
