Replacing Struts 200 1983

Robert,
Question about the sequence you describe. Swing strut out of wheel well and then apply spring compressor. I always thought it necessary to install compressor FIRST to reduce height of spring/strut assembly enough to clear the fender opening. Are you sure it will swing out w/o spring compressed?
