the 'w' in the 10w30 is the 'winter grade'

A 5w30 flows better in freezing weather than a 20w50 due to the fact that the "5W" qualifies as a 5wt oil at zero(thinner)than a "20W"(thicker)at zero and the 5w30 wt is thinner at 200 degree engine oil temp verses than a 20w50 at the same temp.
