I guess your living right on the edge...probably making everyone from the OSHA, to the EPA and your local fire dept., to the tag police, to your mother, to Miss Cleo, very nervous!
BTW, you're NEVER going to "get (electrically) shocked" working under you dash with that mere 12V...but you might hurt something on the car...so if you can keep energized conductors from touching the chassis (and one of the wires at the light switch is directly connected to the battery - without a fuse!), by all means, go ahead and work with the bat connected...its just that drops of molten metal on the skin HURT, and that pesky green dot burned into your retina takes forever to go away!
...but tell us what you found after checking the light switch and wiring!
