Is the 960 a good car to buy?

answer:-

all volvo's (7&9 series) are good cars

red block (i.e. 4 cylinder) cars are more reliable (or totlerate abuse better)

V6's are more maintenance critical - but more luxiourious.

they are all ^&*^* expensive to buy parts for...but (comparatively) easy to fix...

they are all heavy on fuel

They are all safe (some safer than others - eg. post 92 sips equiped etc)

They are all VERY good cars (probably better than most) - some volvo's are better than others...they are not a cheap car to run - unless you are going to keep them for a while in which case you will still be moaning about $45 for a switch long after other cars owners have had to replace there crapanese/yank tank...

Are they the best car in the world - probably not (go see a rolls royce), are they the cheapest (definately not) - the most expensive (nope - see the italians) the most luxiorous (Nope - see that rolls again) the best engineered (nope...see the rolls) etc etc...but they are a fine reliable safe, if somewhat quirky way of gettin from a to b in style and relativly quickly....

and if you think im straight we used to own a reliant regal (dont ask, made of plastic, 600cc and 3 wheels.....)
