you can neutral drop as you already pointed out, but that's bad bad bad.
the other technique is called a brake stand. you hold down firm on the brake, and then you gun the accelerator. your car should lurch a bit but not go forward. release the brake immediately when the tach does not go up any more (should be pretty low around 2k)
both of these methods are kind of stressful (the brake stand being less stressful than the neutral drop by FAR) to your drivetrain.
you can also try doing a variation of the brakestand by going forward, then slamming on your brakes hard (causing the car to lurch forward and thus less weight on the rear) and then gunning it really really fast and hard again while the weight is on your front.
why do you even want to do this? btw, a neutral drop will bust up your differential pretty easily if it's a high speed neutral drop.
