I'll only be able to answer #2 since I'm not too familiar with the turbos.
The canister is the charcoal canister for the evap system. There are two lines one slighty larger than the other that connect from that cansiter to two nipples on the bottom of the intake manifold. can't really see them, just have to feel about. Good luck.
