Diesel

I've always like that model Mercedes. Its was back before they were bulding 'luxury' cars - they were just building the best car they could. Those small bodies 240D's just seem to last forever, and the styling still looks neat as a pin.

My Dad used to have a late 50's 190D when I was growing up. He bought it with 100,000 miles, kept it forever and eventually racked up 300,000+ miles on it. It would probably still be going strong but we lived on the beach (Mississippi Gulf Shore) for a time and the salt air started some rust going. Eventually he sold the rusted car to another 190D owner who pulled the drivetrain and put it in his.

If you want a more modern car the VW TDi is very neat. Just as quick as a regular 4 cylinder gas model and 50 mpg on the highway. The engine has 90 HP and 150 ft lbs stock (easily increased with little effect on mileage). I've often pondered how hard it would be to fit that engine into my PV. With a few tweaks it can put out 150 HP and 250 - 300 ft lbs and would be seriously quick in such a light car. And the mileage would be phenomenal...
