weird power steering vibration

Sounds unrelated to me. What it sounds like, is that the rack somehow got air in it. That's the typical kind of feeling you get through the wheel when the rack has air.

Flushed the PS fluid recently? That would be worth a look.

Also, if it has power steering fluid in it (as opposed to Type F auto trans fluid which is recommended) then flush the old junk out and put auto trans fluid in. I use Dexron III only because it's really just as good.

It could be a pump issue as well.
