Ron - You are a genious and a gentleman. Thank you, following your advice I tracked the offending earthing wire to the carburettor hot start valve electrical wire (blue) that was touching the engine body. I am annoyed at the Volvo and Haynes because their diagram did not show this circuit mapping.
