Fuel Pressure Regulator question

Guys,
I am having these same exact symptoms with my '86 740 T wagon. I have 1) replaced the FPR on the rack, diassembled and cleaned the throttle body ) ran a can of good FI cleaner through the tank and I still get a minor surging between about 50 - 250 RPMs. The car starts first turn when it's cold, then dies unless I keep my foot on the gas slightly, then it runs just "OK". I get about 19 MPG where I was getting about 25-26 hiway before I started having these weird symptoms.
I am not one who likes to install new parts just for the sake of process of elimination, I'd like to be able to find the root cause and not go on an Easter Egg hunt.

How would I test the 02 Sensor to see if it's the culprit ?

How would I test the Throttle Position Sensor to see if it is functioning properly ? Is this relevant ?

My wires, plugs and the caps are relatively new (6 months) so I do not believe they are the involved parties.

What are your thoughts ?

Thanks,
Rich
