You would not have to drain all the coolant just enough to get the level below the thermostat. I would use the 92/190 thermostat. I believe there is a rubber Oring type "gasket" that slips around the thermostat itself and seals when you snug down the housing. Make sure you have a new Oring along with the thermostat.
