If you are just changing the t-stat...do not bother with draining any coolant!

Have your new t-stat ready to go with the new gasket in place, remove the two bolts on the t-stat housing, remove housing, take old t-stat out, put new t-stat in (small hole w/pin facing up) replace housing and tighten bolts.

Top up any lost coolant through expansion tank.
