My concern with that would be mounting depth. An enclosure needs to be a certain depth for the propoer formation of the wave form. This is is why deeper (physically) boxes tend to sound better then the really narrow truck boxes. Also, that are would be difficult to seal. It's doable, but to have it come out sounding good would be no easier then putting the thing in the side.
