Mystery switch and a few other things transmission

I've got transmission tops from both M41s, as well as M410s, and the 4th gear sensor is on the very top towards the front of the box on both types. Backup lights at the back of course.

This one seems to complete the same circuit between 2 clips in either reverse or nuetral, and incomplete in any forward gear. The 3rd clip doesn't seem to do anything...perhaps a ground? Or perhaps we are missing something in our tests...or perhaps our test switch is defective....
