Hi,
The wires that go to the gauge sender are notorious for shedding their insulation
and shorting out against the alternator or the bracket. Check the wires where
they attach to the sender behind the alternator against the block. Also the
harness goes underneath the crank pulley and sometimes the wires can short there
to the clamps that hold the harness.
If your turbo hasn't had the wiring harness changed you may want to consider it. Check the harness carefully at the gray connectors on the firewall. Both in the middle and the one on the passenger side of the car. Also good to check the wires at the starter. If the insulation is flaking off plan on dealing with this. It helps the car run properly once the harness is in good shape. My car used to blow the fuel pump fuse every once in a while. It was cured of this by the new harness.
