No more 4th gear? 700

Hello, I have a '91 740 a/t and I am having a problem with fourth gear. I was driving on the freeway yesterday going about 70 mph and it shifts into third gear. I had to drive home in third the whole way because it wouldn't shift into fourth. Does anybody have any idea what could be wrong?
