You can clean the mirror, but it scratches REALLY easily. You need a really soft soap solution and a very very soft cloth or sponge, and wash a really small area, and then rotate the sponge or cloth so the dirt doesn't scratch the next area you work on.

You'll see what I mean.

I usually just caulk around the edge of the old glue without too much trouble, but if you can lay a good bead of caulk, you can remove the little rubber seal. I don't remember dealing with that, but it's been a while since I've done that job.
