There is a solenoid and it's on the drivers side of the OD housing, with two wires. Since it's an electromagnet, small metal particles can become attached to the plunger and make it stick. You will need a 1" crowsfoot to remove the solenoid, but first you must grind the flanges of the crowsfoot down so it will fit between the OD housing and the solenoid.
You could also buy a new solenoid for around $200, I paid $160 about 3 years ago.
Changing the oil is a good idea too and the trans as well. Make sure you undo the side bolt, or fill hole, first because you don't want to drain the trans and then not be able to get the bolt out and be really stuck.
Resolder the relay as well. There is lots of good info in the FAQ on the OD.
Keep us posted.
BTW, you could also have bad piston O-rings. They do go bad and with my 740T, the OD self disengages below about 50 mph. Bad O-rings.
