Source for higher amp alternators? 200 1985

I replaced the 55amp alternator in my 81 turbo with a 70amp Bosch out of a 700 series car just last month. My (external) voltage regulator died on me. I found that I needed belts that were an inch (as I remember) longer, the alternator casing was a little larger and would hit the pipe running to the heater core before the stock belts could slip over. It has been working very well for me thus far. I believe that the 100amp units are the same case, so they should work fine too.
Anyone know if it is possible to install too high an amperage unit? Any downsides to going to higher amperage?
