I've got a 1980 with the same color code (FWIW, on my year they called it "Damascus Red"). I waxed and waxed until eventually I waxed right down to the primer. Then I quit. I've heard that reds fade and weather the worst.
Now I have a matte-finish, two-tone (well, three tone--it's starting to rust) car. Haven't taken any action to repaint it yet.
I saw the recent thread with the consensus that you should do your own prep and priming, then take it to a paint shop for major masking and repaint. Is there any spray-can primer that really works?
