rear diff 200

In the slow, very slow, quest to sell my brick, one of the potential buyers took the car to a mechanic who had only 2 concerns the fact that the tow package looks well used and the oil on the diff. There's not much I can do about the trailer hitch, although cleaning up the old wiring on might help, but what could be going wrong with the diff? The mechanic said that there was a bunch of 90 weight coming out from around a fitting at the top. Does this sound plausible? What needs to be done and what could go wrong if nothing is done? As much as I'm torn about letting this thing go, I'm certain I don't want to sell anybody a car that's less then what I say it is.

Thanks again everyone
