I pryed the plastic clamp out of the fire wall using a screwdriver and it came off and the cable came out with it. I got a little bummed out when I noticed that although the outer cable plastic sleeving was torn which is why I replaced it (and it was sticking), there was a metal jacket underneath meaning that Mr. Foster's method of oiling the assembly would have worked. I thought it was beyond repair. Oh well, now I have a spare. I put the new assembly in and everything is just about hunky dory but one thing.
The new assembly from Scan Tech has a rubberish looking o-ring or seal on the face of the plastic clamp that assembles to the firewall which the old one didn't have. I can't seem to get enough force on the handle/sleeve/plastic clamp assembly to get the assembly (compress the seal) to mount to the fire wall. I'm trying to get a piece of wood or plastic so I can push on the edge of the plastic clamp but it's difficult to get equal axial force on the rim of the clamp. Has anyone installed this type of cable assembly before?
