Are those US miles, or the much shorter Imperial Miles?

"Second, those miles are likely to be "Imperial statute miles". Those are just the plain "miles" still used in the automobile world in the USA, and until several decades ago in other countries that now know better such as UK and Australia"

That`s odd, last time I looked at our road signs (this afternoon) here in the UK.we were still using statute miles which are 1760 yards long.
The Australians have gone over to kilometers.
We do, however have to buy our fuel in litres, but everyone still thinks in terms of miles per gallon. By the way, we still use proper imperial gallons in common useage parlance which is the only thing in Britain which is bigger than in the US, except possibly our knowledge of other peoples measurement systems!
Colin.
