I used a hose and a syphon to drain the fluid into the bucket. You can then pour the bucket back into the new reservoir with little mess. You can pick up a hose clamp/pliers at most sears for 15$ - or just make sure the hose stays above the drain point .
Do you have the grey cap on your reservoir? If so they have had problems with that one. The new replacement cap is green although many people use the black cap (lower pressure). I would recommend replacing that too.
While you're at it, how 'bout replacing the heater valve (see faq).
