Unfortunately you have to take the knob off. There are probably better ways, but when you go to the pick and pull, bring a large crescent wrench with some heft to it. Adjust the jaws to fit easily over the shaft and knock upward on the bottom of the knob. Then spend the time in the yard to see how all the pieces go together, although I think there is a pic of this in Bentley or Haynes. Yard's nice place to practice. Yours have OD switch?
