Hello,
As far as I know, the flywheel need not be positioned in any particular way after a clutch change. I hope that you machined it at least when you did the clutch change. If it was machined incorrectly and is now out of balance, that would explain new shaking issues, as would if not all of the flywheel bolts were installed and torqued correctly.
Just as a reminder to all that a healthy amount of shake is completely normal for a Volvo due to the beefy stroke and lack of power-robbing balance shafts.
Your freind doesn't know how to read a timing light. I say this because your car would not even run if the timing was 40 degrees out. The timing on my 245 was 5 degrees to far positive when I got it. It made strange noises and had lax power. My experience is that severe running/knocking problems happen at about 10 degrees out, and any further and the spark just doesn't line up anymore.
Happy Bricking
