That big aluminum bridge fits down against the head, making contact (in addition to the 4 rocker arm mounts) all around the valve cover sealing surface. It needs to fit securely to the head, so you can't use a valve cover gasket underneath, just a little sealer. Then the valve cover goes on top of that with a normal gasket. I had to get some longer bolts to reach through to the block.
