Am I correct take it that you are preping the car to save money on the paint job? If so you might want to re-consider. I talked with my paint shop prior to my paint job, and their advice was to take as much off of the car (interior items and exterior chrome and such) as I could. That would give me the experience I wanted with the car, and reduce the work they would charge for. As for removing any paint, they said that the problem they run into when people strip their own paint, is that it takes almost the same amount of time to prep the car properly for primer and paint. Not to say that if you know what you are doing you couldn't do it, but whats the point. If you can stip and prime in a few days great, but you sure don't want to leave exposed metal for any length of time.
If you are doing this because you know what you are doing, and you want the experience - Have fun. Remember that all the body joints are lead and are very soft. The chrome on the top of the fins is bolted from under the fin, and is a great place for rust to hide. Good time to replace those window seals after the paint job.
Good luck
