Cleaning out the coolant expansion tank. 1993

While the "new" car is waiting for parts, I thought I'd clean out the coolant expansion tank so I could actually see the coolant level. The tank has that greenish deposit around the inside. So far I've tried: water, dish detergent, CLR acid calcium/rust remover, acetone, and a brief sritz with carb cleaner. Nothing has removed the deposit except a bottle brush and my finger. The tank (from a 940) has a complicated internal structure which has me baffled (pun intended). Has anyone found a way to clean out these deposits?
