I just put a 740 tach in my 240DL.This tach has 3 wires.

The plus+, hooks to a switched positive source.

The negative-,hooks to a ground.

The P, hooks to the plus on coil.
A white wire with red stripe in the dash comes from the coils, plus+.

The white wire with red stripe."In the dash behind the insterment panel"
On my car this wire was not hooked to anything.
