. . . after only a week--and about 13 (yes, thirteen) miles . . . .
Hi all,
The car has been sitting in the driveway since I drove it home from the garage last Sunday. When I checked the oil in it this AM, I noticed that I had a problem: the rubber is pulling away from the outside of the metal bearing "tube" (usually covered by a black plastic cap, with the top strut nut under/inside it).
So far, the rubber has pulled away from about 1/3 of the tube's circumference. I'm kind of afraid to ask what happens if/when it pulls away completely, but I'm thinking that the top of the strut could suddenly appear through the hood of the car . . . .
So, what's the best option from here, especially since I'll be out of town all this week? For now, I thought I'd put a jack under that corner just to take some of the weight off the mount (but not enough that the car would be in danger of falling on somebody). Then I'll try to get another part (maybe the SKF mounts that "Kane" recommended), and install ASAP after I return. Any other suggestions (aside from starting a "pool" on how long the next mount lasts)?
Any suggestions and BTDTs (and condolences) would be appreciated!
Regards,
Steve A-
