I need help deciding 240 vs 850.

Common knowledge seems to be to avoid '93, '94 and probably '95 850's. I personally know 2 people who have had to replace transmissions in '93 cars. Supposedly there were also electrical problems in these early front wheel drives. Apparently, by '96 they got the bugs worked out. But, when I was shopping, the 96 and 97 850 cars were too rich for my meager budget. I ended up buying a '90 745.
