Engine Overheating 200 1988

Hi,

the probs of overheating seems to return forever.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
about the coolant mixture please read:
http://www.brickboard.com/RWD/index.htm?id=650353
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Also check the level of coolant.

Also coolant has to be changed every 3 or 4 years (depends on mileages).
IF you never do it, holes come in it and it gets clogged.
(The radiator of my father 740 turbodiesel never was changed, until he breaks/died/clogged at age of 12 years - 150 k miles).
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
The fan: everybody says: check the fan, but wat is this????
The mechanical clutch fan:
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
If you start your COLD engine, and you rev IMMEDIATELY to 2000 - 2200 rpm,
you must hear a relative LOUD sound of the air displaced by the fan. (coupling is strongst - the least slip)
After 10 seconds, the fan start to rpm lower at the same RPM of the engine, because the engine is still cold.

The mech fan reacts on ambient temp , trough a spiral wire in the center of it.
It redirects the visco flow inside the mechanical clutch.

With a hot engine, the mechanical fan makes more noise than the engine because it pulls a lot of air trouhgt there, you can feel the air flow under the car with your hand, even if you are in the car.

++EMERGENCY TIP OVERHEATING++++++
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
If someone ever has an overheating problem due to a blocked thermostat
(symptoms are temp gauge keeps rising, the hose connected to thermostat is almost at ambient temperature, no coolant flow through radiator):

1. park car aside the road, keep the engine stationar, hand brake,
open bonnet, PINCH WITH YOUR HANDS WITH EFFORT IN THE RADIATOR HOSE CONNECTED TO THE THERMOSTAT:it acts as a massage to relief the thermostat from beeing blocked: it goes open and you regain cooling flow.
I needed to do this , even in autumn!!, and it worked.

2. Stop and shut of the engine-)-)-)-), because hot spots in the cilinder head are not far away
