I agree something isn't if you are going past the yellow and getting smoked by a stock Saab Turbo.
First of all you need a calibrated guage. The stock Volvo guage is really quite good only the dial face is not calibrated. This is easily and cheaply cured by a new dial face (http://www.linkline.com/personal/dbarton/). No need for a separate pod or fancy dash custom work.
