How can I tell if I am a tooth off on the timing WITHOUT taking it all apart again?

Sure you can. Loosen the top belt cover, set the cam at its mark, verify TDC to assure the crank position is correct, and then pop the distributor cover to check the rotor as I have repeatedly described before.
