M41 wiring 140-160 1973

It's been some years since I checked a J-type solenoid on a bench, but I seem to remember that current draw was about 1 or 1-1/2 amp. A switch rated for that would not need a relay.

If the switch is not rated for that -- for instance, I use an illuminated rocker switch on one car as both the switch and warning light, and it's made for use with a relay -- then you need a plain relay.

If you want to use a momentary switch, that's when you need the 140/240 latching headlight relay.
