How hard to replace hinge w/spring on driver's door? 200 1992

My 1992 came to me with a broken detent spring. It's been two years and I keep putting off this fix, thanks to a similar experience once upon a time with a 122.

Is there any trick or specialized tool that will make the job go easy? Do I need to unbolt the hinge from inside, behind the fuse box? Do you need to take off both hinges and remove the door completely?

Thanks for any help you can provide.
